Alexander Goncharenko: A rally in support of political prisoners was held in Hamburg

On January 21, 2023, in Hamburg, a rally was held as part of the Global Action “Freedom for Political Prisoners”, in which Galina and I took part. The organizers kindly gave me the floor. Read the text of my speech in Russian and German below
“Dear compatriots, dear German colleagues!
For a quarter of a century that I have been engaged in political and human rights activities, the thought has never occurred to me that I would have to speak at a rally in Germany in defense of Russian political prisoners, but I have to. Today, such an action in Russia is already considered a crime.
Over the course of twenty-five years, before my eyes, Russia from a country with an unstable democracy, with Putin's coming to power, first became dictatorial, and then totalitarian.
Today there are more political prisoners in Russia than in the Brezhnev USSR. Public organizations and mass media are forcibly liquidated. Suffice it to recall the television company Dozhd, radio Ekho Moskvy, Novaya Gazeta, Memorial, and the oldest human rights organization, the Moscow Helsinki Group, is next in line. On March 4, laws on fakes and discrediting the Armed Forces were adopted, and almost 400 criminal cases have already been initiated on them and more than 5.5 thousand people have been subjected to administrative penalties.
I have been chairman of the Public Supervisory Commission for Control over the Police and Prisons for three convocations, and I know better than anyone else how difficult it is for political prisoners in prisons. Believe me, the Gulag has not disappeared from Russian prisons.
I believe that the time will come for political prisoners, about which Alexander Pushkin wrote: "Heavy chains will fall, Prisons will collapse - and freedom will welcome you joyfully at the entrance."
For this to happen, we must do everything so that Ukraine defeats the aggressor, i.e. the return of the borders of Russia and Ukraine to the state of 1991, and this will lead to the collapse of the Putin regime.
Let's all say together as loudly as possible: NO WAR, PUTIN'S GANG - UNDER JUDGMENT, ALL POLITICAL PRISONERS - FREEDOM!

Liebe Landsleute, liebe deutsche Kollegen!

In dem Vierteljahrhundert, in dem ich mich in der Politik und für Menschenrechte engagiere, habe ich nie daran gedacht, dass ich auf einer Kundgebung in Deutschland zur Verteidigung der politischen Gefangenen in Russland sprechen werde, aber jetzt bin hier. Eine solche Zusammenkunft und Kundgeben wie heute gilt in Russland als Verbrechen.

Innerhalb fünfundzwanzig Jahre alt hat sich Russland vor meinen Augen von einer zerbrechlichen Demokratie, und mit der Machtübernahme Putins in eine Diktatur und dann zu einem Totalitarismus entwickelt.

Russland hat heute mehr politische Gefangene als die Breschnew-Sowjetunion. Öffentliche Organisationen und Medien werden zwangsweise aufgelöst. Denken Sie nur an den Fernsehsender „Dozhd“, den Radiosender „Echo Moskvy“, die Zeitschrift „Novaya Gazeta“, Menschenrechtsorganisatin „Memorial“ und die älteste Menschenrechtsorganisation „Moscow Helsinki Group“. Am 4. März wurden die Gesetze über die vermeintliche Falschinformation über den Angriffskrieg sowie über die Diskreditierung der Armee der Russischen Föderation verabschiedet. Es wurden bereits fast 400 Strafverfahren eingeleitet und mehr als 5.500 Personen wurden wegen Ordnungswidrigkeit mit einer Geldstrafe sanktioniert .

Ich war drei Amtszeiten lang Vorsitzender der öffentlichen Aufsichtskommission für die Kontrolle von Polizei und Gefängnissen und weiß wie kein anderer, wie schwierig es für politische Gefangene in Gefängnissen ist. Glauben Sie mir, der Gulag ist nicht aus den russischen Gefängnissen verschwunden.

Ich glaube, dass für die politischen Gefangenen die Zeit kommen wird, von der Alexander Puschkin schrieb: "Die Fesseln werden fallen, die Kerker werden einstürzen - und die Freiheit wird euch freudig an der Tür empfangen.“

Damit dies geschieht, müssen wir alles für die Ukraine tun, damit die Ukraine den Aggressor besiegen kann, d.h. die Grenzen zwischen Russland und der Ukraine wieder in den Zustand von 1991 zu versetzen, was zu dem Zusammenbruch des Putin-Regimes führen wird.

Lasst uns alle gemeinsam so laut wie möglich sagen: NEIN ZUM KRIEG, PUTIN'S BANDE- VOR GERICHT, ALLEN POLITISCHEN GEFANGENEN- FREIHEIT!

P.S. In the final part of the action, the organizers arranged a reading of the most famous names of political prisoners. I announced the names of my countrymen from Siberia:
1) Mikhail Afanasyev is the editor of the Novy Focus online publication in Khakassia, the owner of the Sakharov Prize for journalism as an act, a member of the Yabloko party. Accused of spreading “fake news about the army” using his official position (clause “a” part 2 of article 207.3 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation);
2) Sergei Mikhailov, founder of the weekly "Listok", head of the regional branch of the party "PARNAS" in the Altai Republic, is charged under Part 2 of Art. 207.3 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (public dissemination of deliberately false information about the use of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation);
3) Vadim Ostanin, coordinator of Alexei Navalny's headquarters in Barnaul, is accused of art. 282.1 (Organization of an extremist community) and Art. 239.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (Creation of a religious or public association whose activities involve violence against citizens), in March 2022 he was transferred to a pre-trial detention center from house arrest.
The rally participants expressed their support for political prisoners with applause.
